Do you remember MP3 players in 2000? It was a year before the iPod was released, and music companies viewed them as “piracy devices.” The RIAA even sued in 1999 to try to stop the sale of MP3 players.
Then 2001 came. The iPod was released. The device itself was pretty great, but it was not revolutionary compared to other MP3 players. The true revolutionary concept was iTunes: a way to legally, easily, and cheaply acquire MP3s. Piracy dropped off drastically shortly after.
We are at a similar tipping point. Emulator devices are scorned by rights holders, but are growing in popularity with consumers. ROMs are viewed just like MP3s were in 2000.
It’s time to change the script and create a legitimate, legal, easy, and affordable storefront for ROMs.
That’s our vision, and I welcome you to join us in a retro gaming revolution.
